Noticing a Lot of Drama in Your Head? Find freedom now…

Are you telling yourself you “should” be somewhere else in your life? Do you beat yourself up, then throw things completely out of proportion?

I so get this – especially during “that time” of the month.

Your mind spins out of control. You tell yourself things like: “WTF! My life is not what I thought it would be by now! I should be married, have a kid, and be living in my dream home.”

Or: “Crap, I have to fix my relationship and leave my job.”

You may wonder what’s “wrong” with you, or spend your time wallowing in regret, wondering how you got to the point you’re at now.  You’re convinced the naysayers must be right – you’re not good enough to be in X program or X position or X _______________.

The spiritual you, the soul you, the intelligent you checks out temporarily.

So you try to coach yourself, yelling at yourself in the mirror saying “It’s time to grow up already! You are turning 30, 35, 40 or 50! Time is running out, and you’d better hurry up before you’re too old.”

After beating yourself to a pulp you latch onto this question –

“Why is it that everyone else is doing what they love, having fun, making 6 figures, publishing books, and living their dream?” You wonder: when is it going to be my turn?”

I have been hearing this from almost all of my clients, friends and women I meet in the supermarket or even hiking.

I’ve gotta be honest with you, sister: Facebook + Twitter rarely show what’s really going on for other people.

There is ONE thing in your way and it’s not you…

It’s your MIND. I believe you’re an expert at dragging yourself down because you have been trained to do this! It’s all learned behavior. Your mind picked up a certain pattern and you just play it out and have mastered it. The mind can be trained – you know this.

Fortunately, it’s possible to ‘untrain’ your mind. Now is the time to pay close attention, watch your mind and see what games it’s playing with you.

First you don’t even realize you (your mind, ego) are even addicted to it – well your mind is in love with crazy making and it’s gotta stop! What is in your way is your MIND and the thoughts that YOU choose to believe.

FEAR is a multi-trillion dollar industry.

Read any newspaper, watch the news, TV, magazines and  look at ads to find that fear motivates people. Or really stops them in their tracks leaving them in a quandary of it. We only get to see a slither of what really happens on this planet. And over the last 10 years I am amazed at seeing what beauty or success is being advertised to be. It’s total crap.

You have come down with two syndromes:

The “F” Syndrome. Fear of doing something wrong.  Fear of not being the best. Fear of not being worthy, right, or perfect.

Then it’s counter acted with what one of my YSU’ers calls the Hurry Up Syndrome.

Hurry up and (get your shit done to catch up with everyone else) Syndrome. You do this to try to kick it in the butt… and you are left even more disconnected because you are only focused outside and missing the point.

It is a sick cycle that never stops and you inch along feeling like you failed.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION: your mind catches you with it’s tricky programming. You end up making choices based on your agreed fear that only leaves your ego or beliefs right. Your mind seeks the world to find evidence like you are in danger and then this is all you talk about – see x, y or z always happens.

It just wants to be right.

This lines up all those things you are not doing (keyword not) get your life together, fix your self, your relationship, start the book, leave your job to do what you love, or get your biz off the ground. I am not sure why this happen but I know it does and not just to me but to everyone on this planet.

Let’s change this up shall we with a new thought –

You are exactly where you should be. Doing exactly what you should be doing. Now your job is to enjoy it! click here to tweet this if you agree…

You need to put this into action to stop the crazy making.

First, I want you to get that the outside world will only get you up and down. It’s just how it goes. So, when you put your worth, value or success in the hands of the world you will almost always be let down.

Second, understand you are not your mind, your thoughts or your body. YOU ARE ENERGY. I know this sounds woo-woo and it’s absolutely true. Where are you choosing to put this precious energy?

Third, it’s time to get things straight. You are one of a kind… And your thoughts are NOT.
So, it’s time to update your programming and start talking to yourself in the way you ware wanting the outside world to talk to you.

Hey, you are already talking to yourself making yourself crazy you might as well talk to yourself to remind yourself how awesome you are and how everything is working for your good. FINALLY, fix your mind on this and become interested in only seeing what is working.

Fourth, you must be brave enough to go in another direction and have a…

INSERT PATTERN INTERRUPT: When you are spinning, beating up on yourself, feeling that you are never going to get there. STOP, change direction. Note what you have already done,  wash your face with cold water, shake your body out, take a cold shower, drink a glass of water, eat something green (natural), go for a walk or do something you are totally afraid to do… Basically do something to change up your energy. Heat the body cool the mind.

Fifth, for the next week watch your mind, watch what it tells you and notice that you keep telling yourself what you are afraid of and it keeps showing up. Watch what is going on iside of you. Notice how those thoughts are setting you up to keep spinning. Then choose better self talk – mix it up.

Now I need your help….

You love to help others right, maybe even more than yourself.

  1. Amen sista!

    Love this especially:

“You are one of a kind… And your thoughts are NOT.”

Reminds me of what Byron Katie says about there being “no new negative thoughts.” We all have them – but we are not them!

I love this invitation to interrupt that pattern of belief and step into the knowing that we’re perfect, EXACTLY as we are.

Thank you for telling it like it is ;) .

Thanks Sabrina! Glad you enjoyed the post… And how you are one of a kind – and your thoughts are not. Keep on shining love. xoH

Ha ha ha ha! ANOTHER one just for me! I am a MASTER of crazy self talk. In fact, this post reminded me of an old boyfriend who was actually so in touch with my hormone cycles, that he said it was almost like I left my body when I was about to get my period. He woudl say I went from being so sensible and grounded, to being the most ungrounded and self abusive person he’d ever met. He wasn’t much of a calendar keeper….but somewhere in his head, he always knew when to get out of my sights.

Maybe you should invent a special calendar for women…a PMS calendar if you will. You just program in your cycle (like a Dr would), then Hilary’s gentle calendar pre-populates the days with all kinds of “be nice to yourself” activities, and positive reminders for those PMS days. Like little messages that say “be nice to yourself now, cause a storm is brewing”….and little random pop ups that appear on your phone or computer to actually CREATE the pattern interrupts.

Talk about a freebie for your blog!

    Just more of my brain-stormin’ ! :)

Thanks for the comment + tip Tanya. It would make a perfect app… gonna dig into this one. You got my juices going. Now the Q is what is it you are going to be a master at instead of the “crazy self talk?”. xo H

Love this! What I know to be true is that investing my attention & energies into gratitude & joy not only fill me up, but pull me away from the internal, fear-based chatter. The trick for me is bridging the gap between what I know & what I do – the gap is where I so often get stuck. Thanks for the reminder! :-)

    • Hillary Rubin says:

Awesome Rachel! The gap will get smaller when you stay present and focus on what is in alignment, what makes you feel the best. Let me know how that resonates. :) Hillary

Here’s my DIY version of the app! I wrote a whole post on how to schedule those hormonal ‘would be train wrecks’ :)

Love this article! I’m sharing it in my twitter and facebook with my friends. I am on board. :D

  6. Yeah, that’s a good one – how did you know I would resonate with this? ;+) I struggle with this a lot, and the most empowering thing for me when I slip into this zone is to take action on something. When I am actively engaged in shaping the life that I want, my brain shifts to the task at hand and has less room for stewing about what I am “not”.

    • Hillary Rubin says:

Thanks Sharon for commenting. I just knew you would love… it’s my gift of insight. Stay in action. xo Hillary

  7. Alyssa says:

Hillary, you got right in my head on this one! :)
Love the reminder that we are not our thoughts or our bodies — we are energy. That puts SO much back into perspective. And the other 4 strategies are so straight forward <3
